Junior Professional Officer (JPO)
Die Bundesregierung hat mit mehr als 40 Internationalen Organisationen Abkommen zur Förderung von deutschen Nachwuchskräften als JPO geschlossen. Die Federführung des Programms liegt beim Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ); das Büro Führungskräfte zu Internationalen Organisationen (BFIO) ist verantwortlich für die Durchführung des Programms. Angesprochen sind Bewerber*innen mit deutscher Staatsangehörigkeit und mit erster Berufserfahrung nach abgeschlossenem Hochschulstudium.
Da es sich um ein Nachwuchsförderprogramm handelt, sollten Bewerberinnen und Bewerber im Regelfall zwischen zwei bis vier Jahren Berufserfahrung haben.

Junior Professional Officer (JPO), Vienna
Sector/Unit: Division of Fair Production, Sustainability Standards and Trade (IET/PST) / Directorate of SDG Innovation and Economic Transformation (IET)
Duration: 2 years with the possibility of extension for another year.
Please note that for participants of the JPO-Programme three years of work experience are mandatory!
Main duties and responsibilities (Examples):
- Support the team in identifying gaps and opportunities for projects supporting producers in low- and middle-income countries in shifting towards more sustainable and fair production and complying with global ESG regulations and standards. This includes analysing best practices, co-developing project proposals, writing terms of reference for pre-feasibility studies, identifying funding opportunities from donors, international financial institutions, and private sector partners, and developing appropriate monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
- Assist in the implementation of UNIDO’s Global Alliance on Green and Responsible Minerals, where focus will be placed on supporting member states in adopting sound ESG practices along the metals, minerals and mining value chains. Responsibilities include analysing and benchmarking existing sustainability standards and certification programmes in this sector, leveraging partnerships with institutions such as the International Trade Centre and the World Bank Group and building on UNIDO’s experience in benchmarking voluntary certification programmes in food safety.
- Assist in the organisation and running of a technical workshop on the issue of compliance with ESG regulations and standards for producer countries in low- and middle-income countries. Assist in the preparation of a technical background paper.
Profile of qualification:
Education:
- Master’s degree in in Economics, Environmental Management, Engineering or other field relevant to UNIDO’s mandate.
Experience:
- A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience, including at the international level, involving technical cooperation around ESG standards in developing countries.
- Experience in all phases of the Project Cycle.
- Experience in evaluating the needs, conditions and problems in developing countries, is desirable.
- Experience in the private sector is desirable.
Key Competencies:
- Fluency in English.
- Fluency in or working knowledge of other official language(s) of the United Nations is desirable.
