Junior Professional Officer (JPO)
Die Bundesregierung hat mit mehr als 40 Internationalen Organisationen Abkommen zur Förderung von deutschen Nachwuchskräften als JPO geschlossen. Die Federführung des Programms liegt beim Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ); das Büro Führungskräfte zu Internationalen Organisationen (BFIO) ist verantwortlich für die Durchführung des Programms. Angesprochen sind Bewerber*innen mit deutscher Staatsangehörigkeit und mit erster Berufserfahrung nach abgeschlossenem Hochschulstudium.

Da es sich um ein Nachwuchsförderprogramm handelt, sollten Bewerberinnen und Bewerber im Regelfall zwischen zwei bis vier Jahren Berufserfahrung haben.

Junior Professional Officer (JPO) in Political Affairs, Bogota
Sector/Unit: Political Affairs
Duration: 2 years with the possibility of extension for another year. 
Please note that for participants of the JPO-Programme two years of work experience are mandatory!


Main duties and responsibilities (Examples):

  • Research and collect information pertaining to the overall political situation in the country, in particular related to the implementation of the Final Peace Agreement of 2016 as well as other ongoing dialogue processes to further consolidate peace in Colombia, to keep abreast of issues/events and provide up-to-date information; assist in the analysis of information, to include the impact on the overall situation in the country.
  • Draft a variety of reports and correspondence relating to political matters.
  • Accompany the Principal Political Affairs Officer and/or the Senior Political Affairs Officer in meetings with external counterparts; prepare summaries of meetings.
  • Liaise with various teams in the Mission, including Regional Offices, to draft correspondence, prepare meeting materials and briefing notes, draft minutes of meetings and respond to other day-to-day tasks of the Office. 
  • Contribute to the preparation of various written documents. 
  • Support the preparation of high-level/diplomatic meetings and events.
  • Review relevant political issues related to ongoing dialogue processes for peace consolidation. 
  • Review reports from Regional Offices within the Mission to identify and analyze political issues and/or trends.
  • Liaise with government, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), civil society organizations, UN agencies and other partners.
  • Contribute to the collection and analysis of data as well as identification of trends or patterns and provide draft insights through visualization methods for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.
  • Research, analyze, and present information gathered from diverse sources on assigned topics/issues. 
  • Participate in project/programme formulation and mobilization of relevant resources.

Profile of qualification:

Education:

  • Master’s degree in law, political science, international relations, social sciences or related field.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in political affairs, international relations, human rights, law or related area.

Key Competencies:

  • Fluency in English and Spanish.
