Junior Professional Officer (JPO)

Die Bundesregierung hat mit mehr als 40 Internationalen Organisationen Abkommen zur Förderung von deutschen Nachwuchskräften als JPO geschlossen. Die Federführung des Programms liegt beim Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ); das Büro Führungskräfte zu Internationalen Organisationen (BFIO) ist verantwortlich für die Durchführung des Programms. Angesprochen sind Bewerber*innen mit deutscher Staatsangehörigkeit und mit erster Berufserfahrung nach abgeschlossenem Hochschulstudium.

Da es sich um ein Nachwuchsförderprogramm handelt, sollten Bewerberinnen und Bewerber im Regelfall zwischen zwei bis vier Jahren Berufserfahrung haben.

Junior Professional Officer (JPO) in Human Rights, Geneva
Sector/Unit: Human Rights
Duration: 2 years with the possibility of extension for another year. 
Please note that for participants of the JPO-Programme two years of work experience are mandatory!

Main duties and responsibilities (Examples):

• Conduct analysis and research on various legal matters pertaining to HRIB-supported activities.
• Draft legal and analyse and ensure consistency of findings, conclusions and recommendations, applicable law and information gathered.
• Conduct information review under the guidance of the Chief of Section, including interviews and the collection and analysis of open sources material and satellite imagery.
• Assist in the assessment for further analysis and potential uses for accountability purposes of investigative materials maintained by HRIB.
• Draft legal research, analysis, reports, memoranda, etc.

Profile of qualification:

Education:

• Master’s degree in law, human rights, or related field.

Experience:

• A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in law, including legal analysis, research and writing.
• Experience working with an accountability mechanism at the national or international level is desirable.

Key Competencies:

• Fluency in English.
• Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
