Junior Professional Officer (JPO)

Die Bundesregierung hat mit mehr als 40 Internationalen Organisationen Abkommen zur Förderung von deutschen Nachwuchskräften als JPO geschlossen. Die Federführung des Programms liegt beim Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ); das Büro Führungskräfte zu Internationalen Organisationen (BFIO) ist verantwortlich für die Durchführung des Programms. Angesprochen sind Bewerber*innen mit deutscher Staatsangehörigkeit und mit erster Berufserfahrung nach abgeschlossenem Hochschulstudium.

Da es sich um ein Nachwuchsförderprogramm handelt, sollten Bewerberinnen und Bewerber im Regelfall zwischen zwei bis vier Jahren Berufserfahrung haben.

UN-Women – JPO, Planning & Coordination Analyst, Kampala, Chiffre Nr. 2026-1-21 


Junior Professional Officer (JPO), Planning & Coordination Analyst, Kampala
Sector/Unit: Gender in Humanitarian Action (GiHA)
Duration: 2 years with the possibility of extension for another year. 
Please note that for participants of the JPO-Programme two years of work experience are mandatory!


Main duties and responsibilities (Examples):

  • Provide technical assistance to Uganda CO in support of UN Women’s gender coordination, normative and UN Area Coordination (UNAC) efforts.
  • Identify areas for support and interventions on gender coordination and normative processes.
  • Provide substantive inputs into document and processes as well as identification of potential challenges for country level and regional interventions.
  • Provide technical support to joint inter-agency UN planning processes and similar exercises.
  • Provide technical support to UNCT in monitoring and reporting on GEWE and prepare analytical and regular progress reports on UN Women’s programme experiences.
  • Provide support in managing activities and other promotional events to engage bilateral and multilateral institutions/ donors, private sector and civil society.
  • Prepare background documents and analysis for the Country Representative to forge and implement strategic partnerships to increase outreach on UN Women’s work in country.
  • Support the Uganda CO thematic units, sub offices and partners in intergovernmental/ multi-stakeholder fora.
  • Support capacity building of Government, Implementing Partners, Stakeholders, Uganda CO units, UNCT and UNAC actors.
  • Build, manage, and expand relationships with national and regional partners to advocate for translating international standards and norms on GEWE into action.
  • Provide substantive inputs to advance resource mobilization actions and participate in sundry events.
  • Participate in and contribute to policy dialogues around gender equality and the empowerment of women.
  • Provide support to the development and dissemination of good practices and lessons learned; ensure incorporation into programme planning.    


Profile of qualification:

Education:

  • Master’s degree in international development, public administration, public policy, or other relevant social science field.
  • A project/programme management certification (such as PMP®, PRINCE2®, or MSP®) would be an added advantage.

Experience:

  • At least 2 years of progressively responsible experience working with inter-agency coordination and strategic programme planning processes.
  • Experience in the development, planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting of programmes.      
  • Experience working in gender equality and women’s rights at the international level is an asset.
  • Experience working in developing countries within the UN system, Agencies, Funds or Programs is an asset.

Key Competencies:

  • Fluency in English.
  • Knowledge of another UN official working language is an asset
  • Good knowledge of gender equity and women’s empowerment issues.
  • Good knowledge of results based programme planning and management.
  • Ability to promote and monitor inclusion of gender-specific objectives, indicators, targets and activities in the UN agencies programmes.
  • Good analytical skills.
