In the field of international development cooperation, we specialize in promoting sustainable agriculture and food security. On behalf of public and private institutions, we plan, implement, and evaluate projects across Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe, and Latin America.

We are looking to strengthen our team by recruiting a Livestock Disease Diagnosis Expert (m/f/d) for a JICA-funded project in Uzbekistan in the fields of animal health, livestock production, and food safety.

Your profile:

  • Master's degree in Veterinary Medicine with a specialization in laboratory diagnosis of animal diseases
  • Preferably 15 years of professional experience in the veterinary sector, including more than 10 years of hands-on experience in livestock disease diagnosis and participation in more than three veterinary service development projects (consulting and/or research)
  • Experience with WOAH Reference Laboratories (formerly OIE), particularly in Asia (more than two projects); participation in JICA Country Focus Training programmes and experience working in developing countries (more than two projects) are considered an asset
  • Expert knowledge of modern diagnostic techniques, including molecular methods (PCR, sequencing), serological methods (e.g., ELISA), as well as bacteriological and virological techniques; familiarity with international WOAH standards and proven experience in implementing quality assurance and quality control systems for veterinary diagnostics
  • Experience in developing technical guidelines and delivering training programmes, preferably through participation in at least two relevant projects
  • Excellent command of English is required; knowledge of Russian and/or Uzbek is considered an advantage

Your responsibilities:

1. Development of technical specifications for the procurement of equipment and materials for the centres

  • Review and verify all available primary and secondary data collected during the preparatory JICA study for the project
  • Prepare the required technical specifications and develop detailed planning reports

2. Capacity building for centre staff

  • Develop training programmes on the operation and use of laboratory equipment
  • Train staff at the centres in livestock disease diagnostic procedures
  • Assess participants' competency development and issue certificates in the field of livestock disease diagnosis

3. Monitoring and evaluation

  • Support the Project Implementation Unit (PIU) in evaluating the post-training outcome indicators for the centres
