Helvetas

HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation is an organization specialised in development cooperation and humanitarian response, anchored in Switzerland. Our vision is of a just world in which all people determine the course of their lives in dignity and security, using the resources in a sustainable manner.

For our programme in Latin America & the Caribbean, based in one of the Helvetas programme countries (Guatemala/Honduras, Bolivia, Peru), we are looking for a Regional Coordinator to join our organization as per December 2024 or upon agreement.

Regional Coordinator 70 - 100% (F/M/D)

based in Latin America

Helvetas runs long-term programmes in Bolivia, Peru, Guatemala and Honduras, as well as in Haiti. These countries are - except for Haiti - middle-income countries where social inequalities and environmental vulnerabilities remain high; economic growth benefits small national elites, leaving the rest of the population in poverty. Particularly women, youth and indigenous communities living in rural and peri-urban areas have limited access to services and employment opportunities. They are often restricted in terms of having their voices heard and are excluded from decision-making processes. Helvetas programmes support national and local institutions and organizations to provide quality and more inclusive services to the population, working based on the participation and initiatives of multiple stakeholders. Key themes include climate change adaptation, sustainable and inclusive economic development, as well as resource governance.

Haiti, although geographically linked to the region, has a very different development context, and faces some of the world's most acute social, economic and environmental development challenges. The country is prone to many natural disasters and has faced weak governance in recent decades. Helvetas' work in Haiti is largely focused on governance, and includes water, sanitation and hygiene, disaster risk management, youth training and employment, and humanitarian response with a Nexus approach.
